Rainbow Centre's 18th Birthday party.

Everyone heaved a sigh of relief as the day dawned with blue skies and sunshine and the torrential rain of the previous week stayed away for the Rainbow Centre's V Live street party on Saturday 12th July.

Held in Fareham Town Centre, this event was another celebration in the Rainbow Centre's 18th birthday calendar. The Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Ernie Crouch opened the event and together with Mark Hoban MP and his wife Fiona, herself a Patron of the Centre, spent time talking to all the volunteers who were taking part in the activities and manning stalls.

Rainbow V Live was sponsored by Ocean FM's Vproject with the aim of promoting volunteering in the 16 - 25 age group. The street party gave youngsters the opportunity to showcase their talents or to just get involved with helping make the day run smoothly. It also gave voluntary organisations the opportunity to publicise the work they do and The Rainbow Centre an opportunity to raise much needed cash.

The Police specials, Scouts, and Rotary organisations were all there together with youngsters from Fareham College and a three local bands. Rainbow supporter - Shirin, the talented young local singer also , took part as did individuals from LA Fitness and the Mandaleigh School of Dancing. Children were able to look over a fire engine, a police car and have their photo taken on Apollo Cinema's Narnia throne.

Local businesses all got involved, Barclays with a virtual balloon release, London Camera Exchange printed the Narnia photos, LA Fitness, Soothills Bakery, Nandos, Peter Cooper, Warner Goodman all took part, Irving & Company the Micro Brewery even brewed a special Rainbow real ale and gave it away for the day. The Hampshire Flag company donated banners and sails to decorate the town centre and staging and there was even a large 3-metre high rainbow arch donated by Jumbo Inflatables. A treasure hunt sent people further afield to find clues in local shops around the town centre enabling them to take part in this festival day.

Ocean FM's Rick Jackson and Steve Randal ran a road show infilling between Shirin and local bands Rooster, Idle Handz and Split Sixty.
Julie Woodward Community & Event Fundraiser from the Rainbow Centre said, "This has just been the most brilliant day, I can't take the smile off my face! We've more than fulfilled the aim of showing young people that volunteering can be fun and we've succeeded in raising the profile as well as money for The Rainbow Centre. The radio station's even interested in some of the talent that's been showcased here today".

Early indications estimate that the event has raised in excess of £3,000 to help the children of the Rainbow Centre.
