| Magdi accepts OFSTED certificate |
Late last year, the Rainbow Centre received "outstanding" accreditation from OFSTED for the education we provide our children. Magdi Kovacs, Service Manager at The Rainbow Centre attended a prestigious lunch at Lancaster House, London in February and received a certificate on behalf of the Centre from Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty's Chief Inspector at OFSTED.
The Rainbow Centre was one of just two hundred establishments from across the UK to receive this qualification and the Centre has now received the highest possible accreditation from OFSTED in two consecutive years!
Magdi said: "This is exceptional news for the Rainbow Centre as very few special needs establishments receive this recognition, especially not two years running! It shows that we address not just the physical needs of the children but also that we meet the academic requirements to a very high standard. It's fantastic news for all the staff, the parents and of course the children who really benefit from coming to the Rainbow Centre." |

| Cams Hall Golf Club - record adoption year |
A big thank you for a big cheque from Cams Hill Golf Club. This donation of £4,800 is the biggest donation from a Golf Club annual adoption and is testimony to the hard work of both captains throughout the year. Pictured here in January 2007 are Frances Ogilvy and John Carrier presenting the cheque to Julie Woodward and Helen Somerset How. The story of the adoption in January 2006 can be found on our archive page ... |

| Chamber's charitable donation helps the Rainbow Centre |
 |
The Southampton and Fareham Chamber of Commerce has been on the fundraising trail and the Rainbow Centre has benefited from its efforts.
The Rainbow Centre was presented with a cheque for £950 from the Chamber at the launch of its Business Events Diary at the popular Rose Bowl.
Helen Somerset How, co-founder and Appeals Director was at the launch, along with over 120 of the region's leading business people, to receive the generous donation from Jimmy Chestnutt, Director General of the Chamber. Fundraising money came from a very successful Christmas raffle that the Southampton and Fareham Chamber of Commerce holds annually at its members' Christmas Networking Party to benefit different charities. Helen, who is a member of the Southampton and Fareham Chamber said: "I am absolutely delighted that the Chamber chose the Rainbow Centre to receive the money raised from the Christmas raffle. It's going to be a big help! |

On 14 December, parents and supporters were treated to this year's Christmas Play performed by the children (with not a little help from the conductors)!

Father Jeremy was again our narrator - one of his last Rainbow appearances as he is shortly to leave the parish for pastures new. We thank him for his huge support over the past few years - including his never-to-be forgotten marathon run! |
For the children, the climax was the arrival of Father Christmas who distributed presents to each of them.
The morning ended with a Christmas party. |

Rainbow Christmas Card for Fareham MP
Fareham MP Mark Hoban has chosen to use The Rainbow Centre's charity Christmas card this year. The Christmas card, designed by a 6-year-old Jacob Hammond from Winchester, will now be seen all over the country this year.
Mr Hoban met the young artist at The Rainbow Centre on Saturday to congratulate him on his design. He said, "I am delighted to use the Rainbow Centre's card. Jacob's design is delightful and I am pleased to be both raising awareness of this wonderful charity's work and assisting in raising funds for them."
All the Rainbow children took part in a competition for the Christmas card design which was judged by TV personalities Sally Taylor and Fred Dinenage on the day of the official opening of The Bradbury Building in October. |

Robin Hood Runners raise Cash for Rainbow |
| In November of 2005, Mark Futcher, the father of one of our Rainbow children, sadly passed away due to a hereditary heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Friends of the family decided that they wanted to raise money for the Rainbow Centre and, in memory of Mark, decided to take part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham . |
 |
The big day arrived, and Chris Burnett and friends joined the throng of some 18,000 runners. Each person running for Mark achieved personal goals that day.
Dean Pomeroy and Jonathon Ryder came romping home in unbelievable times and Chris was very pleased to beat his brother Pete by 14 minutes. Andy Merrit who had only ever run 2 miles in his life managed to complete 7 miles without stopping and special note needs then to go to El Drew who ran alongside him and put up with the constant whinging due to his aches and pains for the latter 7! |
All made it safely over the finish line and their marvellous efforts have so far resulted in over £3800 for the Rainbow Centre with money still coming in.
We thank the entire team for their tremendous achievement and we are sure Mark would be very proud. |
