PAST EVENTS

Messiah at Portsmouth Cathedral - 7th December 2007

On 7th December members enjoyed Handels's "Messiah" in Portsmouth Cathedral. The evening also included a Christmas supper before the performance.
Not much Cash in the Attic - 25th October 2007

John Cameron

Circle Members and their friends were treated to a fascinating evening at Edwinn's in Fareham, at which the guest was John Cameron of BBC's "Cash in the Attic". A variety of items had been brought in for John's expert evaluation and comment. These included a mahjong set, a regimental bronze statue, a samovar and various books. John discussed each item and gave a rough estimate of possible auction values. John's comments were fascinating, but sadly, it is unlikely that any item will have a significant financial impact on its owner's lifestyle! John kindly gave his time to the Rainbow Centre free-of-charge for which we extend our thanks.

Wickham Vineyard - 31 Aug 2007

The evening began with an interesting presentation among the vines. This talked about the history of the vineyard, type of grapes grown, type of wines produced and the cultivation process. Guests paid careful attention, since they had been warned that a quiz would end the evening with prizes of wine for the winners.

The party then moved to the production area where a variety of Wickham wines were available for tasting. Each wine was described and the correct tasting techniques demonstrated. Then was a lot of swilling, smelling, lip smacking, spitting and swallowing, but decorum was maintained at all times.

The evening concluded with an excellent dinner in the Vineyard's own restaurant.

"Sport of Kings" - 5 July 2007

On 5th July more than 20 Circle members spent a memorable day in the Newbury area.
The day started with a visit to Mick Channon's West Ilsley Stables where he trains over 200 racehorses. After Mick welcomed the group, they were driven up to the gallops to watch horses at work. On returning to the stables, the party was treated to a fascinating tour by Caroline Everall, who entertained with several "behind the scenes" anecdotes and horsey tales!

A narrowboat lunch cruise followed on the River Kennet and then it was on to Newbury Racecourse for the evening programme in Mick's private box. Organiser Lynn Osgood had even managed to secure the services of a retired jockey who went through the card before the first race and provided several lucrative tips. While the evening rain prevented photography it failed to dampen the spirits which by this time had been somewhat bolstered by appropriate race-day refreshment.

Our thanks to Lynn Osgood for another successful, well organised Circles day out!

"An Eye on Parliament" - 11 May 2007

Mark Hoban, MP for Fareham , hosted a special VIP day for Rainbow Circle members at the Houses of Parliament .

Over 25 members enjoyed a full day out in London which included lunch in a private members' dining room and a behind-the-scenes tour of the Lords and Commons . In the afternoon, there was tour of Westminster Abbey, a flight on the London Eye and finally high tea at the Marriott hotel on the banks of the River Thames.
Rainbow Circles member Chris Wotton said: "It was a fantastic day out and one I'll remember forever. To see the inner sanctum of the Houses of Parliament was an amazing opportunity."
Rainbow Circles organiser Lynn Osgood added: "Our thanks go to Mark Hoban for taking a day out of his busy week and showing us personally around the House of Commons.

Second Circle event - 22 March 2007

Ennio's Restaurant in Southampton was the venue for the second Rainbow Circles event. Voted "Best Italian Restaurant in Hampshire - by Italians". Ennio's menu and staff provided all guests with an enjoyable and memorable evening.
The evening was further enhanced by Inner Magic Circle member - magician David Redfearn who astounded everyone with close-up entertainment at the tables performing magic tricks and mind-reading activities.
The evening's MC was Dennis Bundy and it was organised by Lynn Osgood.

Inaugural Rainbow Circle event held
On 12 December 2006, members of the Rainbow Circle attended an evening of carols & canapes around the Christmas tree in the Bradbury Building. The carols were accompanied by the volunteer band of HMS Collingwood, and local singer, Rainbow supporter - Shirin entertained guests with some popular songs.
During the evening - Remarkable Group Chief Executive - Stephen Pomeroy presented Senior Conductor - Magdi Kovacs with gifts for the children. This year Remarkable decided not to send Christmas cards, instead using the money to buy presents.
