She's Off Again |
| Rainbow supporter Caroline Street who seems to take pleasure in suffering pain for charity is at it again! |
Caroline writes: "This year we have set ourselves a new challenge. Earlier this year we
completed a 33 mile race around the Marlborough Downs so what tougher
challenge could we take on? Then we heard about the Coastal Series – the
Ultimate 7x7x7 Challenge (7 courses, 7 stunning locations, 7 months). The
goal is the completion of seven of the “toughest marathons in the WORLD in
seven consecutive months”.
|
The marathons (all coastal) will be Dorset (November), Gower (December), Portland (January), South Devon (February), Pembrokeshire (March), Cornwall (April), Exmoor (May). |
Since Caroline is paying all her own travel and accommodation costs, all sponsorship money will go to her chosen charities. If you would like to donate sponsorship to the Rainbow Centre visit Justgiving ...

| Round the World for the Rainbow Centre |
Rainbow supporter Andy Millner is taking part in the Clipper Challenge 09-10.
Andy from Chandler 's Ford will be undertaking a major round the world challenge for a whole year starting on 20 September 2009. He is aiming to raise £10,000 over the next two years for the Rainbow Centre in Fareham.
Andy, 52, started his training for the 7th Clipper Round the World sailing race in March 2008 and is taking ten months away from his job at Eastleigh Borough Council to take part.
The race involves ten 68 foot racing yachts pitting their wits against one another on a circumnavigation of the world. The race is the brainchild of the President of the Sail Training Association, Sir Robin Knox Johnson, who is based in Gosport .
"Each boat that takes part has a crew of around 17 but only the skipper is a professional sailor. Many of the participants on this race have never set foot on a racing yacht before, creating an even bigger challenge for us," said Andy. "Each of the boats partaking is sponsored by an international city, including several of the ports visited en route. These include Jamaica , Singapore , Western Australia , New York and Nova Scotia ." |
|
| Over the next two years Andy will also be working with local businesses, work colleagues, friends and family to raise money for the Rainbow Centre through a series of local fund raising events.
"I have chosen to raise money for the Rainbow Centre as I wanted to support a local charity that still had the ability to come across as a tight family unit yet performed in a way that clearly improved the quality of people's lives," added Andy. "From a personal point of view the Clipper race is the ultimate leadership and team building course but the association with the Rainbow Centre also provides an opportunity to raise much needed funds for a charity that produces small miracles almost every day."
Julie Woodward, at the Rainbow Centre, said: "We really appreciate all of Andy's efforts. What he is doing will be an extraordinary achievement for him and will help many children at the Centre continue to fulfill their maximum potential through Conductive Education. We will all be supporting Andy every step of the way."
You can sponsor Andy by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/andymilner where any money donated will go to the Rainbow Centre.
Andy has set up a website to track his progress. Andy's website ...
