On Thursday 20 September 2007, the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mrs Mary Fagan J.P. officially declared the new garden open, and thanked the funders who had added to the Peoples Millions Lottery Grant which made the garden possible. Councilor Mrs Katrina Trott, the Mayor of Fareham responded on behalf of the funders.

In her speech, co-founder Helen Somerset How welcomed the guests and recognised that this was the culmination of a year of teamwork which included staff, consultants and designers. Recognition was also given to Magdi Kovacs, Senior Conductor and Service Manager, who has just won a National Award as the Special Needs Professional of the Year, sponsored by EYE a National education journal.

Music was provided by the volunteer band of H.M.S Collingwood whose performance included "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

After the opening, guests were invited by Magdi to join the children playing in the garden.

The opening concluded with a balloon release with a prize for the furthest travelled.
