Welcome to the Rainbow Centre
Specialists in conductive education helping children with Cerebral Palsy throughout the South of England.

THE RAINBOW CENTRE WISH LIST

The Rainbow Centre like most small charities relies heavily on regular unrestricted donations to help fund our vital work with children with cerebral palsy. However we do understand that donors may wish to purchase something specific for the centre and we have therefore gathered together a ‘Wish List’ of smaller items that we need and would purchase if we had the money. Please contact us for more details.

Grab bars
Cost £379.60.
These specialist grab bars can be clamped to chairs and tables easily, so rather than strapping the child in to a seat, these bars (which the children are encouraged to grasp themselves) help the child support itself, instilling a sense of independence whilst also improving muscle function.
Requirement
8 x short bars at £28.20 each, total = £225.60.
4 x long bars at £38.50 each, total = £154.00.

Gross motor skills development toys

Cost £89.94.
These 'toys' help develop balance and coordination whilst having fun. They are physically challenging for children with disabilities but because they are fun they do help with body alignment, special awareness and social skills as there is an element of taking turns and sharing also involved.
Requirement
2 x Wipp Walker at £15.99 each.
2 x Therapy Top at £12.99 each.
2 x Wipp Slider at £15.99 each.

Non slip DYCEM mats.
Boxes of 10 in four sizes, total cost: £36.04.
These simple little mats, made of soft rubber come in a variety of shapes and sizes and would be invaluable as they could be used just about everywhere. For example underneath a plate they would help keep it in place, so the child can feed itself helping to develop independence and sense of achievement. On chairs they help with a child’s positioning and can help stop a child with motor disabilities from actually slipping off the chair, potentially hurting themselves and damaging their confidence.

Specialist Mats for the Nursery
Total cost: £856.
As our Conductors work closely with the children frequently at floor level, undertaking very physical exercises, mats are essential to the programme but we currently only have mats with patterns on them and therefore we desperately need some plain ones. Why plain ones you may ask? Older children with learning difficulties often have trouble focusing and are easily distracted, if the background mat is one colour with no patterns, the child can focus more easily on the activity or exercise it is undertaking.

The new mats would also be anti-allergy, are much softer and washable.
Size: 91cm x 149cm Twelve required at £30 each Total = £360.
Size: 120cm x 179cm Eight required at £38 each Total = £304.
Size: 120cm x 237cm Four required at £48 each Total = £192.
