Parent and Child Group |
The Parent and Child service enables parents/carers/family members gain a greater understanding of how motor disorder affects their child and helps them encourage their child to achieve greater independence with the leadership and advice of one conductor in the group.
All aspects of the child's development are addressed. Planning and recording of progress are guided by the Principles of CE combined with the Birth to Three Matters Framework, establishing the early building blocks in preparation for the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum.

Aims
The session aims to:
Create a happy and secure environment for the children and parent in order that they enjoy learning together.
Help families understand their child's particular needs and assist bonding.
Promote independence, social and daily living skills. |

Advise parents of appropriate techniques, games and toys to encourage the development of social and play skills.
Help parents prepare their child for the most appropriate nursery education by introducing the child to pre-nursery curriculum. (Birth to Three Matters Framework).
Provide an opportunity to move up to the Nursery setting in the Rainbow Centre which is registered with OFSTED and has been awarded "Outstanding" grades in all areas of development in both 2005 and 2006 consecutively. Provide opportunities to meet other parents of children with special needs.
Liaise with other professionals.

Attendance
The Parent and Child Service offers placement for children aged from 1-3 years together with their parents/carers/families. The duration of the group is 2½ hours. The child's attendance depends upon its age and ability and may be up to 5 days per week. The size of the group may vary each day to a maximum of 6 places depending on the ability/needs of the children attending.
Monday to Friday 10.00am to 12.30pm.

Individual Sessions |

Babies and some children will benefit from individually tailored sessions. Here children work towards age-appropriate goals during the sessions, accompanied by their parent or carer. |

Provide an opportunity for children and parents to learn the main principles of CE on a one- to-one basis with a Conductor in preparation for moving into a group environment for the next stage of their child's development.

Preparation for Parent and Child Group |
A one hour long session which prepares children for a smooth transition into the Parent and Child Group. This preparation group enables parents/carers/ families to gain basic knowledge of CE and work harmoniously with their children toward their individual goals accompanied by a maximum of two peers within the group. The group is supported by two qualified conductors.

The Ramblers |
This group deals specifically with the needs of active, able children with motor impairment, who have the potential to become fully functional children in all areas of development. Disabilities could become minimal if children learned early on how to make the best use of the whole body. |

Prepare children for a smooth transition to their local playgroup or nursery. Some sessions may take place offsite. For example, local playgrounds, playgroups, activity centres and supermarkets.

Attendance
The Rambler service offers placement for children aged 2-5 years together with their parents/carers/families. The one hour long session may be individual or set within a small group supported by one conductor.
Days and times are agreed during the assessment. |
