Andrew Gray
|
| Andrew was at the Centre in the mid-90s and we recently received this update (June 2008) from his father, John. |

Andrew |
"Andrew is in the Hampshire 2nd XI squad for players with physical disabilities or learning difficulties, and, at 13, he is the youngest regular squad member. They play with an "Incrediball", which is a rubberised cricket ball, still quite hard but not as solid as a real cricket ball. They compete in a league with Somerset, Dorset, Hertfordshire and Wales. He played today (Sunday) against Hertfordshire at New Milton Cricket Club. Unfortunately they lost (Herts are one of the better teams) but Andrew scored 8 runs (that's his best yet) so he had a good day and was pleased with his personal performance".

Niamh Worsfold
|
Back in April 2007, we received this update on Niamh Worsfold from Veronica, Niamh's mum. Unfortunately the email was misfiled until recently, so with apologies - better late than never ...! |
"Hello there,
My daughter Niamh Worsfold used to attend the centre, until we moved to Scotland , where she now attends the Craighalbert Centre.
Niamh started two mornings a week when she was 12 months old, her initial assessment was carried out by Melinda. We stayed at the centre until she was nearly three, when we moved from Dorset to Airdrie. |
Niamh is still undiagnosed, and her symptons have still not changed, she is hypotonic and has a gdd, her muscle tone is much improved though. Niamh is a bum shuffler, and will move around the house using her bottom. At school she uses her kaye walker - she's fast! Outdoors she now uses her wheelchair, she is able to steer, and usually makes a beeline for Dora the Explorer toys while we are shopping. |
 |
We do wish you all the very best for your new centre and much congratulations on the recent Ofsted reports.
Thanks for the help and support you offered us when we really needed it.
Veronica - Niamhs mum"

Nikki Blondel (now living in Guernsey) saw this website and wrote to Helen recently " ...I think that getting someone in to trace some of the old families could be a great idea, especially to initially get everyone back in contact ...".
|
Nikki's daughter Chloe is now 12 and left the Rainbow Centre in 1998. Nikki wrote:
" ... Having a dedicated page for the parents w ho have had children who attended the Rainbow Centre at one point in their lives or another I think would be a fantastic way for everyone to discuss experiences that have happened over the years and how things are going now. I feel so isolated here in Guernsey as there just doesn't seem to be anyone quite like Chloe who has achieved so much and yet still is unique!!! ...
"I would love to come to the opening of the new Rainbow centre whenever that may be. It looks great on the pictures on the web, but to me it will always be in Quay street where it all started for us so long ago. Going there changed my life forever and it will always hold a very special place in my heart...
"I will never forget when I first started at the Rainbow Centre and they said that they could never promise how she was going to turn out and I always said "as long as she can walk down the street one day like everyone else then I will be happy" and that was exactly what I got". |
