My First Poem – Senses is a fun activity that encourages children to use their senses to describe something that inspires them, whether this is their favourite person or thing, a day out or holiday, summer or winter, or a magical moment. Fin and Reuben, two of our Rainbow Children, entered the Young Writers’ competition to have their poems published in the My First Poem – Senses book and, as you can see, they were successful. For more details or to order a copy of the book, visit the Young Writers website

Fin (4) – Senses poem about the beach:My Senses logo

The sea looks calm like a swinging chair

The beach sounds noisy like the town

The sand feels squishy like jelly

The water tastes cold and salty

The sand smells stinky like fish

I like the beach because it reminds me of playing with mummy and daddy

Reuben (4) – Senses poem about my family:

My mummy looks good like a ball

My brother sounds cheeky like me

My daddy feels like a big ball

I taste cucumber

Nanny smells like sweet cupcakes

I like my iPad because it reminds me of cartoons that I watch at home
