It was as if he had been opening department stores all his life! We were delighted when four-year-old Oliver Taplin was invited to help in the opening ceremony at the new Debenhams in Fareham – alongside his mother Rachel and the Mayor of Fareham Councillor Trevor Cartwright.

Hundreds of people turned out for the long-awaited opening. Manager Andy Birt said: “They just kept coming in. We knew it would be good, but not this good. I’m over the moon.’

Debenhams have just adopted the Centre as their first charity of the year, pledging to put on four fundraising events on our behalf. Magdi Kovacs, director of services said: “We’re delighted to be their first nominated charity. It really shows their dedication to local people.

The first Debenhams event is rumoured to be a sponsored chest or leg wax…but we’ll keep you posted!
