Fareham centre receives thousands as runners race Great South Run

Scott Lyons and Mark Taylor 2The Rainbow Centre, in Fareham, has thanked all the Great South Run participants, particularly the 42 people that chose to run for them in October.

Runners of the 10-mile race have raised £7,000 to support children and adults with cerebral palsy and adults with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s and those recovering from stroke or head injury.

Lara Bull, centre director, said: ‘We were absolutely delighted to have so many people running for us this year.

‘It was fantastic to see so many Rainbow tops within the crowds of runners.

‘What a brilliant event the Great South Run is for all local charities.’

The centre, on Palmerston Drive, has had a huge charity appeal following its potential closure earlier this year.

And there has been a huge increase in the level of support being shown by individuals and companies.

People in the community have organised football and golf tournaments, skydives, sponsored silences, a Russian balalaika music evening and an Indian Summer Ball.

The 42 runners in the Great South Run was also a record for them.

Next year is The Rainbow Centre’s 25th anniversary and it is planning a huge array of events all linked to the number 25.
