The Things People Do for Charity

There’s no limit to what some of our supporters will do to raise money for The Rainbow Centre – some people climb mountains, some organise a cake sale or charity raffles.

Then there’s the others – like the amazing Gary Litchfield, who fasted – yes, DID NOT EAT – for an incredible 87 hours and raised a magnificent £250 for the Centre.

Gary, who is part of the security team at Debenhams in Fareham was inspired to give up food for four and a half days after seeing a TV programme about the health benefits of fasting. He decided he needed to lose a few pounds; colleagues were impressed and promised to sponsor him if he did it. The result is that Gary lost exactly 1 stone and Rainbow gained lots of pounds!

Gary fasted from a Thursday to Monday, and nearly cracked on the Sunday night: “but I knew if I ate that bit of chocolate, the children wouldn’t get their money. Only the thought of the children kept me going.”

Claire Lofthouse, manager of Debenhams, Fareham said: ` Gary pulled out all the stops to raise money for the children at the Rainbow centre, his thoughtful and caring attitude meant that he put them first! Fantastic example of the lengths that some people will go to.’

A great big thank you to Gary from all the well fed staff, children and adults of the Centre!
